Project Description
Day 8 of 12 Days of Bone Health Holiday Tips
Gut Health
Hippocrates once said “All disease begins in the gut”. If that is true, then everyone with symptoms or illness is walking around with a leaky gut, a microbiome that has an imbalance of bacteria, or digestive and stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation, and more, and basically have an unhealthy body.
If all disease begins in the gut, would this mean bone loss too, right?
Absolutely.
In order to reverse bone loss and have strong bones, one must first clean up the gut and balance the microbiome.
Probiotics are a potential therapy for osteoporosis! This concept is still new, but several new studies have been completed that prove this statement to be true.
Scientists involved in these studies agree on the following statements:
A specific strain of probiotics was proven to lead to 50% less bone loss over a year. The catch? These strains were only available through certain manufacturers, and does not prove that other probiotics will do the same. The probiotic dose levels were quite large, so it is recommended to work with a functional practitioner. The reduction in bone loss was restricted to the lumber spine in both studies, and other probiotics may help with other areas.
My recommendations?
To promote reduction of bone loss, look for ways to add probiotic-rich foods into your diet on a daily basis. I heard that just one tablespoon of quality raw sauerkraut taken with each meal is enough probiotics for each day.
Also, find a functional medicine practitioner that can order gut tests to see what your microbiome balance is, and to learn exactly which probiotic strains you need. If you do not have a functional medicine practitioner in your area, set up an appointment to see how I can help you. I have worked with a lot of people helping them with gut issues. https://p.bttr.to/361E25K
See your functional medicine practitioner to see if you need to test for parasites, bacterial infections, or fungal overgrowth. These are all signs that you may have gut issues that need to be addressed.
Watch your sugar and carbohydrates, and alcohol! These foods feed the bad bacteria and make things worse.
This holiday season up your intake of fresh veggies, fruits, whole grains and grass-fed meats. And don’t forget the wild-caught salmon for quality omega 3’s. These all feed your gut with important minerals and keep things humming.
If the above information seems overwhelming and you don’t know where to begin, let’s talk. In our phone conversation, we will look at your symptoms, determine if you need a mineral test to assess for deficiencies. Once we begin working together and based upon mineral test results, you will be given a protocol to follow for at least 90 days that puts you on the track to eliminating symptoms and overcoming your bone loss. Yes! BONE LOSS IS REVERSIBLE! But, it depends on many things which we will address.
We also discuss which foods you need to eliminate, and which foods you need to add, based upon your deficiencies and body type. Go here to schedule a free 30-minute consultation.
